PROVERBS 3:5-7

We are memorising scripture to use in our daily lives.

Last week's Memory Verses were:
Proverbs 3:5-7

Trust in the Lord with all your Heart.
Lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him and
He will make your paths straight.

Actions to not only memorise the words, but also where it is written

A king said it, so we remember Solomon and therefore Proverbs - think of his crown with 3 prongs
So we also automatically remember number 3, so now we remember Proverbs 3

Put your hand over your heart like this
Then sing: TRUST [with hand on heart] in the lord with all your heart!
Lean NOT on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge HIM
and
He will make your pa-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ths
straight! When you say straight, it looks like the peace sign [your paths will be straight]
put your hands out in front of you like so
yay! so we remember a king = Solomon = PROVERBS
we think of his crown = 3 prongs = 3
we put our hand over our heart = trust = five fingers = 5
when we get to "paths straight" we put our hands out with the peace sign = 7
That is how we remember Proverbs 3:5-7.

THE TEMPLE AND THE NEW TEMPLE

So, where were we...
Israel wanted a KING like the other nations.  They wanted someone who LOOKS like a king, so big, strong SAUL became king.  He was a timid king, a fearful king.  He was not a strong leader and did not have God at heart.  We heard how he cowered against Goliath, and how David, the shepherd boy was not afraid to tackle Goliath armed with only a slingshot and some pebbles, but he knew that he had GOD on his side.

David was a wonderful king who Loved God and followed God's Word, he wrote:
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path"  Psalm 119:105

David wanted to build a temple for God, but God promised David his son, Solomon would build a temple and one of his descendants would ALWAYS rule over Israel.

So, when David died and his son Solomon became king, Solomon built a Temple - representing God's presence with his people.  It was a spectacular Temple and the heart of the temple was covered in Gold and contained the 10 commandments.  Only the high priest could enter this sacred space and talk to God on behalf of his people.  This is where sacrifices were brought before God to say sorry for our sins, and to worship God.

over a 1000 years later, when Jesus, a descendant of David (remember, God said to David his descendants would always rule over Israel), entered a temple he said, I will break this temple down and rebuild it in 3 days.  This came true when Jesus died on the cross, he broke down the barrier between us and God forever.  By being the perfect sacrifice for ALL our sin, we do not have to bring sacrifices to God any more.  There is no temple we have to go to to take a sacrifice, there is no priest who talks to God on our behalf.  God broke down the temple.  He is our Sacrifice.  He 'rebuilt' the temple by raising Jesus from the Dead, Jesus is our Temple, God's presence with his people, and when Jesus ascended to Heaven, he left his spirit with us, in our hearts and he is now IN US.  We are now God's temple. How fantastic is that? And we can talk to God freely, he is our personal God and Saviour.

SCIENCE & GOD

Here's a good place to start talking about intelligent design [god created univers[es]] and creation without a god involved.

Lots of kids have these very big questions.

Dante, this is for you!

IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU, IT'S ABOUT GOD

There were some big questions and a wonderful discussion about life.  How God is always in control and He created us for HIM.  It's NOT about us, as we so often believe, it's all about God.  He made us for Him.  Not the other way around.  I told them that God made us with free will, we are free to choose Him, otherwise, the friendship is not real.  Imagine having an electronic dog, that never wees on the carpet, who runs to you (only on your command, when you press a button on a remote control), who never chews holes in your socks, but at the same time, never runs to you out of own free will.
Then imagine the dog, that wees on the carpet every now and again, who chews holes in your favourite socks, who doesn't always listen when you call him, but every now and again, you feel him licking your toes and when you look down, he is just looking up at you wagging his tail, ready for a run and play and a cuddle.  Everyone agreed, the puppy who chooses out of his own free will to sit at your feet and have a cuddle is the real deal.  That's companionship.  Everyone was longing for a puppy.  Now THAT is why God made us, he wanted true companionship.  He made us so that He could love us and be friends with us forever.  But for it to be authentic friendship, there has to be free choice.  God is sovereign, He is the Creator and He decided to make friends for Himself.

So this week, we are remembering, that God loves us with all our mistakes, He made us to just love him as we are. He love us JUST THE WAY WE ARE.  He loves us just because we run to him and acknowledge His friendship.  He loves us.

LET MY PEOPLE GO! EXODUS

Fergus, Laura and Dante opened our day with beautiful prayers.  Fergus also says to God that he hopes He is having a good day.  I tell the class that Laura had a brush with fame - she met Kate Bracks, winner of MasterChef 2011 @ St Matthews Church on the Corso, on Monday evening!

Here is is a pic

Our Lesson: Moses hears God calling him from a burning bush! God sends him to Pharao to demand this: Let God's people go!

Pharao refuses and God sends 9 plagues, but Pharao STILL refuses to let God's people go.  God sends the Angel of Death to the firstborn son of every family, only those who paint their doors with the blood of a lamb, will be passed over.  This points us to what will happen for us in the future, even though all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, Jesus died in our place, He is our sacrificial lamb, therefore death will not stop at our door, but instead, we inherit eternal life.

Wow.  Next week we see how even after all God does for his people, they still keep doubting.  Does it not sound familiar?  Absolutely!  We do exactly the same.  But God still persists and keeps rounding up his lost sheep, he loves us, no matter what.  Thank you God!
